privacy-policy

Amaraé Telemedicine Academy (“ATA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website ata.academyhq.io (the “Site”) and the online courses, cohorts, and related services offered through it (the “Services”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

By using the Site or enrolling in a course, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account and enrollment information. When you register, create an account, or enroll in a course, we collect information such as your name, email address, password (stored in encrypted form), and any profile details you choose to add (bio, photo, etc.).

Payment information. When you purchase a course, payment is processed by our payment processor, Paystack. We do not store your full card or bank details ourselves — Paystack collects and processes that information directly under its own privacy policy. We retain records of the transaction itself (amount, date, course purchased, order status) for accounting and support purposes.

Course and learning activity. We collect information about your progress through a course — lessons completed, quiz/assignment results, certificates issued, and time spent — so we can track your access and, where applicable, issue certificates of completion.

Communications. If you contact us for support, or sign up to receive course updates or marketing emails, we collect the information you provide (e.g., your email address and the content of your message). We use Brevo to send transactional emails (order confirmations, course notifications) and, where you’ve opted in, marketing emails.

Cookies and similar technologies. The Site uses cookies necessary for it to function (e.g., keeping you logged in, remembering items in your cart). We also use, or intend to use, the following tools, which may set their own cookies and collect usage data:

  • Google Analytics — to understand how visitors use the Site (pages viewed, time on site, general location).
  • Meta (Facebook) Pixel — to measure the effectiveness of advertising and, where applicable, show relevant ads.

You can control cookies through your browser settings; see Section 6 for more on your choices. If either tool is not yet active on the Site, this section describes how we will use it once it is.

Technical information. Like most websites, our server and hosting/security providers automatically log some technical information when you visit — IP address, browser type, device type, and pages visited — mainly for security and troubleshooting.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account and course enrollments.
  • Process payments and prevent fraud.
  • Give you access to the courses you’ve purchased and track your progress.
  • Send you service-related communications (purchase confirmations, course announcements, access reminders).
  • Send you marketing communications, where you’ve opted in — you can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Improve the Site and our courses, including through aggregated analytics.
  • Comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or unauthorized activity.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

  • Service providers who process data on our behalf to run the Site and Services, currently including WooCommerce (our store/checkout platform), Paystack (payment processing), and Brevo (email delivery). Each of these providers has access only to the information needed to perform its function and is bound by its own privacy and security obligations.
  • Analytics/advertising providers (Google Analytics, Meta Pixel) once active, who receive usage data as described in Section 1.
  • Legal and safety purposes — if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ATA, our students, or others.
  • Business transfers — if ATA is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; we’ll notify you if this materially changes how your information is handled.

4. Data Retention

We keep your account and course data for as long as your account is active, plus the duration of your course access period (courses are typically available for 6 months to 1 year from your purchase date, depending on the course). After that, we retain a minimal record of your purchase and enrollment for accounting, tax, and legal-compliance purposes, and to honor certificate verification requests, even after your active access has ended.

You can request deletion of your account and personal data at any time, subject to what we’re legally required to keep (see Section 5).

5. Your Rights and Choices

Wherever you’re located, you generally have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information (most of this you can update yourself from your account settings).
  • Delete your account and personal information, subject to our legal/accounting retention needs.
  • Opt out of marketing emails at any time, using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email or by contacting us directly. (You cannot opt out of essential service emails, like purchase confirmations, while you have an active enrollment.)
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, such as analytics/advertising cookies, through your browser or device settings.

If you’re in the EU/UK, these rights are provided under the GDPR/UK GDPR; if you’re in a US state with its own privacy law (e.g., California’s CCPA/CPRA), equivalent rights apply. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 9.

6. Cookie Choices

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of the Site (like staying logged in or checking out) from working properly. Blocking analytics/advertising cookies won’t affect your ability to use the Site or access your courses.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted password storage and relying on PCI-compliant payment processing through Paystack so we never handle your raw card details. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.

8. Children’s Privacy

Our Services are intended for adults and are not directed at, or knowingly offered to, anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. International Users

ATA serves students globally. If you access the Site from outside the country where our servers or service providers are located, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in other countries, which may have different data protection laws than your own. By using the Site, you consent to this transfer.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you (e.g., by email or a notice on the Site).
